Video technology emerged in the early 1980s, bringing completely new design and communication possibilities with it. Young people in the 1980s relied on the new medium and used it to spread their opinions and concerns.
The “Rebel Video” exhibition at the National Museum Zurich shows videos from London, Basel, Bern, Lausanne and Zurich. The lives of video makers, such as the filmmaker Samir, the artist Sus Zwick or the Briton John Hopkins and the impact on cultural and social life today are also explored. The exhibition runs from 18 August to mid-October and provides a flashback to the eventful 1980s and the first steps in the digital age.
